Wednesday: Food

Today's challenge was to eat locally and/or organic.
Luckily, the cafeteria helped out today by having a "Low-Impact" Lunch, which was super delicious.
My favorite piece of food was a dagwood sandwich, with avocado, red bell pepper, alfalfa sprouts, herb mayo, spicy mustard, tomatoes, and lots of other good stuff on whole grain bread.
Deeeelicioussss!

So, I would say I was half successful, because lunch was good, but dinner wasn't as easy to measure locality...
Tomorrow's challenge is energy, so here's to going off the grid...

Tuesday: Transportation

Today was the most successful day yet :)
It wasn't much different than a normal day for me, since I live on campus, and normally walk to and from class from my apartment.
I only went off campus once all day, and my roommates and I all took one car :)

Proud of myself today!
Tomorrow should be interesting...food challenge.

Monday: Trash

Today's challenge was, well, pretty challenging.
I started off the day well, not creating any garbage at all...until lunch.
I faced a slight napkin dilemma, followed by a plastic bag issue, then a little sweet treat craving problem later in the day.
Even through the trials today, I inventoried one paper napkin, one twist-tie, one small plastic bag, one paper cup, one plastic spoon, and one paper bag tossed in the trash.
In more positive news, I caught myself about to carelessly toss some paper in the trash, but my eyes luckily noticed the recycling bin, so I'm gonna give myself some props for that :)
One thing I noticed today was that there aren't recycling bins in our office...maybe a change I can suggest :)

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's challenge: transportation.
Let's see how it goes...

Sunday: Consumption

Yesterday was the start of this week-long No Impact Experiment.  It involved evaluating what I consume and trying not to buy anything new.
Problem #1a: I've been waiting to get paid so I can buy rain boots.  I got paid this week.
Problem #1b: It's supposed to rain most of the week and I have no suitable shoes.
So, one day in and I've already hit a wall.  Although part of me says to just buy them as a long-term investment.  (And hey, it's only one new item...)  But the stubborn part of me wants to prove that I can successfully complete this week.
What to do...
Today's challenge is TRASH.  Will update tomorrow...

turning over a new life?

i am currently enrolled in a sustainability studies course.
next week, i will attempt to complete a no impact experiment, which will challenge me to have absolutely no impact on the planet for one week.
i'll be blogging about my experience here!
it's on.

30 Days of Me: Day 7

Day 7: a picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you.

new.york.city.
more specifically,
central park.

new york is one of my favorite places.  after going there the first few times on school trips and such, it wasn't a huge deal.  but, last summer, i had the opportunity to spend an entire day by myself just walking aimlessly around the city.  this is the day that i realized just how comfortable i was in the city and just how big of an impact it has on me.  i like how new york is non-discriminatory; there's a place for everyone.  and on a summer day, as you approach different neighborhoods, (some) people smile, and anyone who doesn't is just in their own little world.

basically, i absolutely love new york.

30 Days of Me: Day 6

Day 6: favorite super hero and why.

quailman is my all time favorite superhero.  now, some might say that doug funnie's alter-ego is not a real superhero.  i call BS.
he is an alter-ego, he has a trusty sidekick in quaildog, and he has a heroine in patty mayonnaise.
i'm also a fan of how he transforms so easily using household items - none of that telephone booth crap :)
